Demitri Theodoropoulos
The City of Newark needs change in our municipal government.
The only way to do this is to get new members elected. We have been stagnant and fresh people with new ideas will solve this. We all want the same thing, an opportunity to do well and not be overburdened by city government.
To be able to make enough money to live comfortably
To be able to go to our Main Street and shop small businesses without spending 20 minutes figuring out parking
To open a small business without antiquated restrictions
To enjoy living in Newark.
I moved to Newark at 7 years old, and spent the rest of my life here. Attended Downes Elementary, Central Middle, Newark High School, then University of Delaware where I earned my degree in Mechanical Engineering.
As a Main Street business owner, a life-long local, and active life-long community supporter I bring a unique perspective and genuine love for our city.
Top Priorities
-
Revitalize Main Street by fostering a thriving small business environment through strategic improvements, including:
Enhancing downtown parking accessibility to attract more visitors and customers.
Streamlining business licensing processes to encourage entrepreneurship and growth.
Expanding the availability of commercial properties to support new and existing businesses.
These initiatives aim to create a more dynamic and prosperous downtown community.
-
Collaborate with the University of Delaware to attract high-paying jobs to Newark by leveraging the potential of STAR Campus and advancing clean energy initiatives. This includes:
Developing a clean energy hydrogen hub to position Newark as a leader in sustainable energy innovation.
Attracting major corporations that offer competitive salaries and long-term employment opportunities.
Driving economic growth through cutting-edge research, technology, and industry partnerships.
These efforts will strengthen the local economy and establish Newark as a hub for high-quality employment and innovation.
-
Expand access to affordable and subsidized housing to ensure a more inclusive and sustainable community by:
Increasing the availability of affordable housing options for individuals and families.
Developing subsidized housing initiatives to support those in need.
Partnering with local and state agencies to create sustainable, long-term housing solutions.
These efforts will promote economic stability, diversity, and a higher quality of life for all residents.
-
Ensure adequate funding for Aetna Fire Company without imposing additional financial burdens on residents by:
Securing alternative funding sources, such as state and federal grants, to support fire and emergency services.
Strengthening partnerships with local businesses and organizations to enhance community support.
Implementing cost-effective strategies to maintain high-quality emergency response services.
These initiatives will safeguard public safety while maintaining financial responsibility for residents.
